Crossing Erzsébet Bridge toward Gellert Hill, the road turns north and splits into two one way causeways going in opposite directions. Heading North you are on Attila út. Running south in the opposite direction is Krisztina Körút. On the left rises Tabán park, below Gellert Hill and a favorite spot of summer concerts. Just visible from the street are the yellow gilded Rác fürdõ, or Rác baths. On the right Castle Hill dominates.
The numerous pubs and restaurants along this route are less pricey than in the more commercial Pest. Originally built in the early 18th century, the Aranyszarva (golden stag), has average entrées at about 2,000 to 3,000 HUF. Open from noon-11 pm daily. The traditional Hungarian heavy and hearty dishes, wild fowl and meat and fabulous sauces are rounded out with Hungarian red wines.
I think the eating terrace is a bit too close to the street, which is pretty busy with automobile traffic, but it is elevated and airy, and one side glimpses the Danube. Aplus here is that, if you walk around the corner, you are a stone’s throw from the back entrance of the Buda Castle walls that surround the Castle District. Climb up the walkway and you can enter, no doubt the way invading Moors once did.
